ROMA, PALAZZO FARNESE


The palace was started by the Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, Pope Paolo III. The planned was realized by Sangallo and was continued by Michelangelo. The Gulielmo dalla Porta which realized two statues and the decoration of fireplace of the Embassandor Hall.

The Hall of Farnesian Fasts shows the walls painted with frescos that was painted by Francesco Salviati. The iconographic theme is the Triumphs of Farnese Family, with Ranuccio Farnese, the Pope Paul III, the Smalcalda Battle, the Trento Council, the emperor Carlo V and the Farnese Family.

Carracci Gallery

In the end of XVI Century, Annibale Carracci was in Rome and the cardinal Edoardo Farnese commited to him to fresco the walls of the big gallery that was planned by Paolo III in 1530. The iconographic themes of the Carracci Gallery were committed to Bellori and show, in the ceiling vault, the Pleasure and the Love Wars between Men and Deity. In the central panel, Annibale painted the Bacchus and Ariadne Triumphs, Aurora and Cefalo, Aci and Galatea. There are the wonderful panels of Venere and Anchise, Giove and Giunone, Diana and Endimione. The walls were painted by the brother of Annibale, Agostino Carracci helped by two others famous pictures, Lanfranco and Domenichino, which painted some panels that are framed between the stucco statues and friezes.


Camerino di Ercole

The room of the Cardinal Odoardo Farnese was painted by Annibale Carracci in the first time when he was in Rome, and was an anticipation of the great art work of Callery. The iconographic theme of the Camerino di Ercole shows the life of Ercules, which is painted between the allegory of Virtus and Vice. The figure of Hercules is inspired by the classic statuary, like the marble group of Laoocon or the marble statue of Farnesian Hercules.

The painted room

The painted room shows the ceiling vault and the walls that are painted with grottesche and Cupids.

The Hall of Cardinal

The Hall of Cardinal is the firts room which was painted. It shows two frieze, one of this was painted by Daniele Da Volterra and show stucco friezes wtih birds, masks and festones

The Hall of Farnesian Possessions

The Hall shows the ceiling vault decorate with lunettes that show the Farnesian Possession in the country near Rome.
