Upper fragment of a statue of Merytamon

Merytamon was one of the daughters of Ramesses II and Nefertiti, in some depictions she stands beside her father as the Great Royal Bride. The statue retains its pictorial decoration. The face is framed by a tripartite wig, held in place by a diadem with two urei bearing the White Crown and the Red Crown, symbols of Upper and Lower Egypt. On the queen's head is a circular base decorated with a frieze of urei with a sun disc (above which must have been a diadem composed of a double feather the sun disc, the prerogative of the Great Royal Brides). At the ears are visible hemispherical earrings, on the chest is a broad collar composed of elements in the shape of the hieroglyphic 'nefer' (beautiful). In her left hand she clasps a 'menat' necklace (an object related to the cult of Hathor), while on her left wrist she wears a wide bracelet.
