Sfinge at Amenemhat III

The ruler, identified according to the style of the sculpture as Amenemhat III, is depicted as a sphinx: with a lion's body and human head. The face is framed by a long, thick mane and the ears are leonine. On the forehead was the uraeus (now lost), on the chin the false, broken beard. The statue was usurped by several rulers after Amenemhat III.
