Hemaka Tomb Disk

Hemaka, who lived during the 1st Dynasty, was one of the first to hold the important political posts of treasurer and administrator to the ruler, despite not being a member of the royal family. Numerous decorated discs were discovered in his tomb. The function of these objects is still unclear, perhaps they were used as spinning tops to be rotated inside the box by means of wooden sticks inserted into holes drilled in the centre of each disc; a hunting scene is depicted, two dogs, two gazelles; there are two scenes, in one the dog chases the gazelle, in the other it bites the gazelle's neck
