Deposited in the sarcophagus, it was probably meant to represent the deceased, replacing the whole statue that is never present in these tombs (most of Chephren's reign). This head is devoid of wig (one of the identifying elements of social rank) and ears and bears no inscription relating to the name or titles of the person depicted. It has almond-shaped eyes protected by rather elongated raised eyebrows. The mouth is set in a slight smile. Perhaps they were forms for making funeral masks that were then placed in the tomb next to the mummy, or perhaps ritual objects against the dangers of the spirit of the deceased.
