Statuette of Cheops

Ivory miniature figurine of the pharaoh Cheops (Khufu), 4th dynasty, builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is the only truly complete image of the ruler and was found by Petrie at Abydos. Cheops is seated on a throne, with his right hand clutching a scourge while his left hand lies on his knee. He wears the red crown of Lower Egypt and the shendyt skirt. The pharaoh's face shows details such as small eyes, a wide nose and mouth and a prominent chin. On the right side of the throne the name of Horus inscribed in the serekh has fortunately been preserved.
