Sepulchral altar of Octavius Melissus

The altar is surmounted by a lid decorated with volutes and rosettes. The central part is occupied by the tabula with a dedicatory inscription. On either side of the tabula are two feline protomes holding a garland filled with flowers and fruit in the centre of which is a protome of a Gorgon. At the bottom, near the corners, are two sphinxes resting on protruding bases.
