The mosaic depicts Christ enthroned on the rainbow of the New Covenant. In his left hand he holds the globe, a sign of his lordship over creation, while his right hand is raised in a sign of blessing. In the upper part the parousia is accompanied by the choir of musician angels. Under his feet flow rivers of living water, these are the four heavenly rivers: Pishon, Gihon, Tigris and Euphrates. Next to Christ are represented the archangels, each standing in front of a door to heaven. Only one door remains empty; it is the one abandoned by Lucifer after his fall. Below this majestic scene is the sea of the firmament, which passes through the inscription in Hebrew: 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'.
