Sarcophagus of Ramesses I

The sarcophagus is located in the burial chamber and is made of red granite. The decoration was not completed, in fact the texts and figures are simply painted yellow as there was no time to carve them. The goddess Isis is represented at the foot of the sarcophagus while Neftis is at the head. Both are represented on the sign nbw indicating gold. The yellow paint is reminiscent not only of the golden skin of the deities but also of the so-called Chamber of Gold, the name generally used to indicate the burial chamber. In detail, the god Anubis is depicted with the head of a jackal.
