Book of Doors: third division

Door book, third division. The decoration at the top features a kheker frieze and a cornice. On the left is the door with the serpent Djedby rising on its tail. First register Twelve deities in human form. In front of them stand twelve deities with jackal heads placed above two triangles symbolising a lake. Second register: the sun boat is heading towards nine sarcophagi containing nine lying mummies painted black, these are the inhabitants of the Duat who are waiting for the boat to pass so they can be reborn. In the boat is a ram-headed god with a sun disc, representing the Sun god. This is the nocturnal form of the sun, a combination of Osiris and Ra. The god stands under a canopus protected by the great serpent Mehen, and holds a sceptre was. In front of him stands another serpent with protective functions. Also on the boat are the god Sia, in the bow, and the god Heka in the stern. The boat is pulled by four inhabitants of the Duat, the Dwawtyws. Third register: Horus with staff has in front of him nine gods proceeding towards a chapel inside which stands Osiris preceded by a cobra. The image shows a preliminary sketch drawn in red with corrections in black and the beginning of the relief.
