The Book of the Earth is one of the major compositions concerning the netherworld. The central figures are Osiris, Ra and the ba. The main theme is the journey of the sun through the earth god Aker as well as the creation of the sun emerging from the abysses into the light. The sun disc is raised from the depths of the earth by numerous arms. The depths of the earth were the place of annihilation where enemies and damned souls were destroyed. At the base of the wall is a series of bound and decapitated enemies.
