Ka at Tutankhamon

Detail. King Tutankhamun in the presence of Osiris is followed by his Ka, which on his head, above his long tripartite wig, bears the hieroglyphic sign 'ka', consisting of two raised arms. The Ka is the vital, invisible and intangible element that makes man live and distinguishes him from the corpse. It is born with man and follows him into the afterlife. The royal Ka was the divine aspect of the king's personality; the ruler became a god at the moment he joined his Ka, i.e. at the moment of the coronation when he sat on the throne of Horo.
