Book of the Amduat. Detail of the fifth hour with the journey of the sun through the secret recesses of Sokar. At the top what would appear to be a sand-filled chamber with a rounded top symbolises the darkness of the underworld. On either side hangs a falcon. To the left of this object is a large serpent with two heads, to the right the five guardians of the Duat. In the centre is a hill terminating in a woman's head, above which is a scarab emerging from the sand chamber and depicted in the act of descending. On the right and left gods and goddesses hold a rope and drag the sun boat. At the bottom Sokar grasps a winged serpent symbolising chaos.
