Ramesses III. Detail

Detail. The pharaoh wears a long semi-transparent tunic and wears the blue crown, the Khepresh, on his head. In the depictions this headdress, which appeared at the beginning of the 18th dynasty, is worn only by the ruler, unlike the other crowns also worn by the gods. The Khepresh consists of a kind of helmet-cap, probably made of leather, generally decorated with metal studs and adorned with the serpent Ureo.
