Scenes of work in the fields

Detail of the sub-registers with scenes of work in the fields. Lower sub-register, from the left: after the harvest the grain is transported by two pairs of men in large baskets. Under the first basket is a child bent down to pick up the grain; under the second are two girls intent on quarrelling. On the right are two men resting under a tree. Central sub-register: nine characters sift the grain, separating the grains from the chaff; Menna under a canopy supervises the work and receives two containers from an attendant. Menna wears a semi-transparent dress with short sleeves and a skirt and holds a cane, a sign of his role as an administrator. Upper sub-register, from left: part of the scene measuring the field; Menna, under the canopy, holds the staff and the kherep sceptre. In front of him, above, an attendant greets four figures; below: a man is beaten with a stick, while another appears to beg for mercy.
