Decoration of the ceiling of the first room with bovine heads.

Ceiling painting of the first chamber of the Inherkau tomb. The paintings are partly ruined. The portion of decoration shows a motif of scrolls and bovine heads with a red sun disk between the horns. These are the bucrania known and attested in Egypt as early as the 1st dynasty: in this case, however, the reference is not to the cow goddess Hathor but can be interpreted as a reinterpretation of the Cretan influences that characterised the New Kingdom. Finally, the offering formula is written in blue hieroglyphics on a yellowish background in the frame around the boxes.
