Detail of one of the statuary groups in the Inner Chamber: the group represents Khaemhat and Imhotep (royal scribe, possibly related to Khaemhat) and is carved directly into the limestone in which the entire tomb is carved. The face is damaged at the level of the chin, nose and cheek and appears covered with a black patina (the burial was desecrated in ancient times and the patina is due to fumes from cooking fires from the period when the tomb was used as a dwelling). On the head there is a 'double' wig, whose workmanship (with smooth locks at the top and curls at the bottom, on the sides of the face) is characteristic of the reign of Amenhotep III.
