Lamentations and funeral rites on the Userhat sarcophagus

Left: some women mourn the passing of Userhat by throwing ashes on their heads in mourning. Two are turned to the right to observe a priest Sem and a reader sacedrote perform funeral rites on Userhat's sarcophagus. Userhat's coffin is upright and has human features, with a false beard, a wig and a cone of perfumed ointment on his head. Right: beyond a tall bouquet of flowers and papyrus is Userhat again, reborn and welcomed into the afterlife by a goddess of the West (only the lower part of the goddess' red dress is visible). Behind her is a pyramidal structure adorned with garlands, perhaps representing Userhat's funeral monument.
