Detail. The Behet fan consisted of a long stick with a lotus flower at the top and a half-moon shaped plate into the edge of which ostrich feathers were inserted. This flabellus, a symbol of royalty, was only worn by the person who held the prestigious position of 'fan-bearer at the king's right hand'.
