Odeion Theatre

Theatre 2, perhaps to be identified with an odeion, is located west of the Caesarion. It probably served multiple functions: as a hall for musical auditions or rhetorical performances, or as a covered theatre in case of bad weather. The imma cavea rests largely on the ground, while the second order of ten tiers of seats rested on substructures. It is divided into five wedges and an equal number of vomitoria. The presence of the remains of columns in the collapse of the Portico delle Erme below has led to the hypothesis of the existence of a portico at the top of the summa cavea.
