Oracular Cave and Mitreo

A staircase erected at the south-western corner of the Temple of Apollo leads to the Oracular Cave of Apollo Pythius. It consists of a unitary chamber with a tripartition in the bottom and a counter carved into the eastern wall. During the 3rd century AD, the cavern was adapted as a Mithraeum. In late antiquity, the hypogeum was transformed into the nymphaeum of a private stately home.
