Donary of Strategists

The donarium was dedicated to Apollo by the Strategos of Cyrene as a tithe for the victory achieved against the Macai and Nasamoni, Libyan tribes. The building is in the shape of an oikos, with the rear side flanked by the retaining wall of the Upper Terrace of the Sanctuary. In the centre of the façade, facing the sacred way, is a large door framed by a Doric-type cornice surmounted by a heavy epistyle. The construction rests on a crepidine of three steps and has walls formed by a plinth.
