Marble statue of Apollo

Side total of the statue of Apollo originally placed in the peristyle of the House of Menander. The god is depicted standing, with his left arm bent and his closed hand clutching a lyre made of another material and now lost. The face has archaic features and is framed by an elaborate hairstyle surmounted by a laurel wreath. The archaic features are motivated by a taste for the antique that characterises that period.
