Dominating the painting are the apse and dome of St. Peter's Basilica, taken from the vineyard of Santo Spirito, amidst the greenery of the Vatican gardens. To the left of the painting is the Vatican Hill with the enclosing walls of the gardens behind which the niche of the Belvedere can be seen. Next to the colonnade one can recognise the Palazzo del Santo Uffizio and the courtyard of the Cavalrymen's house
