Matteo Perez painted thirteen frescoes in the Grand Master's Palace in Valletta on the great siege of Malta in May 1565 by the Turkish troops of Suleiman the Magnificent. This is one of the works that introduced Mannerism to Malta. This fragment depicts the assault by sea and land on the island, and on St Michael's, on 15 July 1565.
