Sleeping Dea

The figure, which features sculpted breasts (two variants have been found), was found in the funerary context of the hypogeum. Her figure tells us of the sacred function of the priestess's sleep incubating the prophetic dream and reminds us of the passage through sleep into darkness that belongs to the initiatory ceremonies of many traditions. Falling into the belly of the Goddess to regenerate, to be reborn to new life.
