Painted Tomb of Tigrane: the god Anubis

Detail of the god Anubis represented with a jackal's head and seated on a pillar of the central niche. In his hand he holds a cup. The tomb found near Tigrana Pasha Street in Alexandria dates back to the Hadrianic period and combines Egyptian and classical elements: the wall paintings show funerary motifs from the Pharaonic period mixed with Greek symbols and rendered in the Alexandrian Hellenistic style.
